Planning and Zoning
The Planning & Zoning Commission is a volunteer group of citizens consisting of five members and two alternates appointed by the City Council for the purpose of reviewing various types of development-related applications and providing recommendations to the Andrews City Council. They also serve as the Board of Adjustment.
Land use control is one area the Planning & Zoning Commission utilizes to maintain and improve the quality of life enjoyed by the citizens. It is broken down into two types: Subdivision regulations and Zoning. This is an attempt to address the needs of the future while addressing and satisfactorily resolving the problems of the past.
The Planning & Zoning Commission typically meet on the third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall, 111 Logsdon.
Citizens needing to go before the Planning & Zoning Commission should make application at City Hall. Our staff will place the item on the next agenda after application, fee, and backup documents are received. Occasionally, a pre-application meeting with the Director of Community Services and Director of Utilities is required before application process can begin.
The City Council is ultimately responsible for determining the appropriate district to apply to each parcel of land after initial review by the Planning & Zoning Commission. The Planning & Zoning Commission reviews all requests and any recommended changes are presented to the City Council for final consideration.
The process of rezoning usually takes approximately three months.
Agendas are typically posted a minimum of 72 hours prior to each meeting.
