Better Bathroom Rebate

Better Bathroom Rebate Program

The City of Andrews adopted a Water Conservation Plan in 2019 in accordance with Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) guidelines and requirements. The objectives of the Water Conservation Plan are to reduce water consumption from the levels that would prevail without conservation efforts, reduce the loss and waste of water, improve efficiency of the use of water, encourage efficient outdoor water use, document the level of recycling and reuse in the water supply, and extend the life of current water supplies by reducing the rate of growth in demand.

Rebate, retrofit, and incentive programs such as the proposed Better Bathroom Rebate Program are identified by the TWDB as a Best Management Practice.

The City’s Better Bathroom Rebate Program applies to residential properties for the purchase of WaterSense certified toilets, showerheads, bathroom faucets, and faucet aerators. Replacing older toilets with water-efficient toilets can save 4,000 gallons of water per toilet per year. Updating showerheads can save up to 2,700 gallons of water, and water-efficient faucets and aerators can save up to 700 gallons per year.

To be eligible, the applicant must be a direct City of Andrews water customer in good standing. The property must have been built prior to January 1, 2006 and must be residential (a single-family home or duplex.) An itemized receipt(s) must be submitted with the application within 60-days of installation. New toilets, showerheads, and bathroom faucets or faucet aerators must be EPA WaterSense certified to qualify for rebate. Products can be found at lookforwatersense.epa.gov/products.

The rebate amount is 50% of the cost of the new fixture. The maximum rebate is $500 per water account per year. The program will be implemented on a first-come, first-served basis, until such time available funds are expended.
