Junior Police Academy

The Andrews Junior Police academy is an annual week-long summer program hosted by the Andrews Police Department that is offered each year in June-July. The program is divided up into a morning and afternoon session that each last four hours. The goal of the program is to expose our youth to different police officers and police agencies so that they can learn about different types of law enforcement and related activities.

The Junior Police Academy is structured like an actual police academy, and the junior recruits are provided a shirt to wear as their “uniform.” Each morning the junior recruits will start their day off with a healthy dose of physical exercise, as well as taking a short physical fitness test. After the morning PT, each day there are blocks of instruction that will be geared towards highlighting important areas of police work including crime scene investigation, DWI investigation, traffic stops, traffic accident investigation, defensive tactics, traffic stops, and first aid. To help enhance the recruit's experience, there will be guest instructors from agencies including Texas Department of Public Safety, Andrews County Sheriffs office, Texas Rangers, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and Andrews EMS.

At the conclusion of the week, there will be a graduation reception to celebrate and recognize the hard work of the junior recruits. Family members are invited to attend and watch their recruit be recognized.
