American Community Survey — 5-Year Estimates

The American Community Survey (ACS) is an ongoing survey which replaces the Census long form and provides demographic, socio-economic and housing characteristics on an annual basis. Information from the survey generates data that help determine how more than $400 billion in federal and state funds are distributed each year.

Andrews is considered a rural community with a petroleum and agricultural-based economy. It lies in the heart of West Texas cattle and ranching country. Agriculture, primarily livestock production, was the first industry that helped bring pioneers to the area. However, oil and gas exploration/production is the region’s mainstay. The oil and gas industry continues to be a major source of private sector employment.

The Permian Basin region of West Texas is a semi-desert region with hot summers and mild winters.  In the Spring, winds can be extreme. Annual rainfall averages 10-14 inches.

Andrews’s schools are recognized for their academic and athletic excellence. Athletics programs have claimed numerous state titles including baseball and boys and girls golf. There are three elementary schools grades (K-5), one middle school (6-8 grades) and one high school (9-12 grades).
