City revenues per capita typically fluctuate with the price of oil as seen through its sales tax receipts. Sales tax receipts decreased and 28% in 2016 as the price of oil dropped. Sales tax receipts increased 1% in 2017 as oil prices began to slowly increase. Sales tax receipts increased 17% in 2018 and 18% 2019. Sales tax receipts decreased 4% due to the oil price drop and COVID-19. Expenditures per capita have increased in the last five years due to increased costs associated with the City's new $26 million truck reliever route and $7 million water treatment facility.

The City's property tax rate of $.181917 per $100 valuation remains the third lowest among cities in Texas with a population over 10,000. The tax rate was decreased for the first time in eleven consecutive years and marks the fifteenth year the rate has been below 20 cents.
