The purpose of the Building Inspection Division is to protect the public's life, health and welfare and improve the quality of life in Andrews through the adoption, interpretation, education and enforcement of building codes. 

The Building Inspection Division plays a critical role in the overall success of the community by providing excellent and professional customer service, assuring the safety and well being of the public and protecting economic interests through the development of a safe and sustainable community.

  • Issuance of Building, Electrical, Plumbing and Mechanical Permits and their associated Inspections

The primary purpose is to establish, educate and enforce minimum requirements to safeguard the public health, safety and general welfare through structural strength, means of egress, stability, sanitation, adequate light and ventilation, energy conservation, systems efficiency and property protection. One of the primary responsibilities is to review plans and construction documents for all residential and commercial construction. 

Prices for permits is as follows:  Minimum fee for all permits is $25.00

.03¢/square   foot

Plumbing,   Electrical and Mechanical

.01¢/square   foot

Before beginning any construction, you are urged to talk to the Building Inspector and get any necessary permits and/or approval from the Zoning Board, if applicable.

Hours of Operation:  Monday - Friday      8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Steven splits his time between the office and field inspections.

He is usually in the office each day from:                               

8:00 a.m. -   9:00 a.m.

1:00 p.m. - 1:30   p.m.

4:00 p.m. -   5:00 p.m.

Building permits and fees are required for construction, alteration, or addition to a home or building, including storage buildings. Plumbing, electrical and mechanical permits are also required. An application for a building permit requires a site plan of the property indicating all existing and proposed structures and improvements on the property.

Homeowners may apply for permits on homesteaded property only. Any work on rental property must be performed by a registered, licensed contractor.

All remodelers, repairman and handymen must register with the city.

A move-in permit is required to move a manufactured home or house into the City of Andrews.

Expired Permits Reminder

As stated in Chapter 1 of the International Codes, it is the responsibility of the permit holder to notify the Building Inspection Department when such work is ready for inspection and to obtain a final inspection on each permit.

Every Permit issued shall become invalid unless the work on the site authorized by such permit is commenced within 180 days after it's issuance, or if the work authorized on the site by such permit is suspended or abandoned for a period of 180 days after the time the work is commenced.
