Citizens have the opportunity to serve on one of the 3 boards of the City of Andrews. Each board member receives training and orientation to better prepare for their new role. Although one board has special requirements specific to their particular function, the only prerequisites to serving on most boards are an adequate amount of time, a sincere desire to become involved in the Andrews community and being a resident of the City of Andrews.
The boards were created by City Charter or ordinance which outlines its purpose, number of members (including any specific requirements), meeting dates and times. When there is a vacancy, advertisements are placed in the Andrews County News.
Once a year, the City Manager provides the Mayor and Council a list of Boards whose members have terms expiring and a list of prospective board members for reappointments and/or new appointments. After careful review of board information, the City Council appoints and/or reappoints members to the various boards.
