Other certifications and training that some of the firemen have

Many of the Andrews Volunteer Firemen are not only certified as volunteer firemen. Each of the following certifications play a vital role in this Fire Department's ability to serve and protect Andrews County.
Several of the firemen are certified as an EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, or Paramedic. Most of these certified men also volunteer with the Andrews Emergency Medical Services.
Many of the firemen are also certified in High Angle and Confined Space Rescue. Many people ask why AVFD would ever need high angle rescue skills in the flat, treeless lands that we live in. Well, the most common area that we might need these skills would be around industrial accidents. A few examples of industrial settings that might require these skills in a rescue are on drilling rigs, oil field tanks, and radio towers.
Another certification that some of these men hold is in HAZMAT. The word HAZMAT just means Hazardous Materials. Just recently, the fire department has even put a new HAZMAT trailer into service.
Several of these firemen are certified basic firemen. One man, is even certified by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.
