2008 Firefighter of the Year |
|
During the recent Appreciation Luncheon honoring the first responders in Andrews, the Andrews Rotary Club awarded Buddy Hobbs as 2008 Firefighter of the Year. Captain Buddy Hobbs began his career with the Andrews Volunteer Fire Department in 2004. Since then he has quickly become an invaluable asset to the department as well as person looked upon for leadership in times of emergencies. In the words of Joe Harper, Fire Chief, “Captain Hobbs has proven to be a leader on and off fire calls. He has sacrificed many nights with little to no sleep, enjoyed many cold meals and missed out on days off. Captain Hobbs has not only shown professionalism on the fire ground, bus assist with fire prevention and training as well. He has performed all of these actions with no hesitation and continues to be a man of great integrity and valor.” Captain Hobbs girlfriend put it into perspective once when she requested an application for the Department so that she could spend more time with him. |

A Volunteer Fire Department requires more than just volunteered time. Volunteers must be willing to go above and beyond to protect our community with little or no recognition, compensation, or sleep. To be able to run into the blaze when everyone is running out ! |
