Review for Residential and Commercial Plans is contingent upon work load and varies accordingly. However, most plans can be reviewed within 3-5 business days.

How Do I Know If I Need a Permit?

  

The construction, enlargement, alteration, repair, movement, demolition, or change of a building or structure or the erection, installation, enlargement, alteration, repair, removal, conversion or replacement of any electrical, gas, mechanical (heating, ventilation or air conditioning) or plumbing systems REQUIRES a permit PRIOR to the work being performed.

How Long is a Permit Good For?

  

Permits expire 6 months from date of issue or the last inspection.

Do I Need a Permit to have New Cabinets Installed?

 

No.  Painting, papering, tile work, carpeting, cabinets, countertops and similar finish work does not require a permit. Although, should you hire someone to conduct the work, they should be registered with the City as a handyman, repairman, etc.

Do I Need a Permit to Remove a Wall?

 

Yes.  The removal of any wall, partition or portion thereof, the removal or cutting of any structural beam or load-bearing support or the removal or change of any means of egress (e.g. doors and windows).

Does My Work Require a Permit?

 

Electrical:  Minor repairs, including the replacement of switches, receptables, and lamps do not require a permit.

 

Plumbing:  Clearing of stoppages, stopping leaks in drains, water and sewer lines, valves, fixtures or vent pipes or the removal/installation of toilets do not require a permit.

 

Gas:  A permit is not required for portable heating/cooling appliances or the replacement of any minor part that does not alter or make the equipment unsafe.

 

Mechanical:  A permit is not required for portable heating/cooling appliances, replacement of any part that does not alter or make the equipment unsafe.

 Do I Need a Permit to Place a Storage Building in My Backyard?

 

Yes.  Storage buildings, whether they are built on-site or purchased, requires a building permit before construction or placement.

Do I Need a Permit to Build / Replace My  Fence?

 

No.  The City of Andrews does not permit fence replacement or installation. Although, you may want to contact City Staff regarding building standards.

Yes.  Whether or not the carport is built in the front yard, backyard or sideyard a permit is required.
